Hi all,

I seem to be encountering a problem with my Sweetspot and Dscaler 4.17p2 setup. I am only getting the top half of the
image appearing in Dscaler, even though Zoom is set to 1x and Aspect Ratio is just the default 4:3. I own a number of consoles, and each one has this problem. I am running WinXP.

I did an install of Windows 98, and this solved the problem - but I want to be able to use DScaler under Windows XP.

I have an xbox connected via Component Video (jumper set correctly) and a dreamcast connected via s-video. Both have this problem of only the top half of the picture been shown when running under XP. They are both PAL consoles, with the format in DScaler set to PAL. I took screenshots of DScaler running under both 98 and XP (by pressing L). Both DScaler screenshots look OK when I view them- but under XP it doesn't appear like it does in the screenshot, I can only see the top half of the image. I tried installing the BTWincap driver but it made no difference.

Any help would be most appreciated!

Hi ssalah,

Which VGA card and VGA driver version are you using?

Hi

Sis Xabre 400 and latest drivers from http:\\downloads.sis.com
(R35302.exe v3.02). I've been advised that the problem is likely
caused by the Windows graphic subsystem/overlay, but that doesn't help me fix it! Perhaps I need a new graphics card?

Hi ssalah,

Yes, I think so. Please also update the DirectX to the latest version.

already got DirectX 9b. Thinking of getting a Geforce 3 Ti 500 - any other suggestions? I don't really play PC games, but I do need TV-out and DVI which only seem to come with the expensive-ish cards :(

Hi ssalah,

VGA cards using ATI Radeon chipsets are recommended since their scaling engines are excellent. There are many inexpensive Radeon cards with DVI/TV outputs in the market.

Hi Sharif

We would definately recommend that you get a Radeon, they are pretty much the defacto standard for HTPC use. As Atman says there is a wide range of cards available, and if you are not really looking for a gaming solution then you can get a Radeon for about £50 and get pretty good results from it.

Let us know how you get on!

David

Just to add my 2 pence worth:D
The Saphire brand of Radeons generally seem to be a reliable budget solution.
The 9600 non-pro (fanless therefore quieter) is the current card of choice with www.ebuyer.com selling one for around £75.
As David said though, there are cheaper ones around.

Hope that helps
