View Full Version : Playstation 2 connected to sweetspot via component cable

Hi
I purchased quite an expensive Component "Monster Cable" for my Playstation 2 with the intention of connecting it to my sweetspot card for the ultimate picture. I already have an xbox and a gamecube with the component cables for each of these, and I'm very impressed with the results I get in DScaler. I altered the settings of my PS2 to make sure it is indeed outputting a Y Pb Pr signal, but all I got was an unstable purple picture, quite unusable, that kept flickering constantly vertically down the screen. Fine I thought, so I changed the output of the PS2 to RGB and switched the jumper on the sweetspot card, but got the same result. Any suggestions on how to resolve this?
Thanks in Advance

Hi,
Have you tried directly connecting the PS2 output with your display device (i.e. the projector) to gurantee the PS2 is outputting standard component signals that a common projector can receive? I have heard that we need to set the PS2 correctly, or else PS2 may output some noisy nono-standard signals for component output.
Also, pls have a trial on DScaler 4.1.9?
P.S. Just FYI, we need not change the jumper in case of RGB since sync is embedded on Y/Green (instead of separate sync).

Thanks for that reply
My projector is an old one that doesn't have component inputs, although I see no reason why the PS2 would be faulty. I have installed DScaler 4.1.9, but can't get it to work with Sweetspot, as it is not there in the list of cards to choose from in the set up. Have you got sweetspot working with this latest DScaler?

Hi
Just to update, I got the latest version of Dscaler working with Sweetspot by choosing PMS PDI Deluxe. But exactly the same problem as before. If the PS2 is giving out a non-standard component signal, how would I adjust this? There's nothing I've seen in the options, other than to switch between an RGB and Y Pb Pr output.

Just a quick post to eleminate the PAL or NTSC issue.
Are all your consoles outputting the same type of signal?

They are all PAL consoles, and I have the format set correctly. As I mentioned before, the GameCube and Xbox Component output displays perfectly, it's just the PS2 I have problems with.

Hi,
There is no guarantee or expected result if we feed non-standard NTSC/PAL signals to deluxe card. So, I suggest we should focus on the PS2 first. That is, connecting the component output of PS2 directly to some display device (e.g. TV set, projector), is it possible?
BTW, how's the result in using the S-video and composite output from your PS2?
